Ducks Sign Murray Watts, Acquire P.J. Phillips In Trade

2005 Bowman Chrome - P.J. Phillips from
The Long Island Ducks have signed first baseman Murray Watts, and acquired infielder P.J. Phillips from the New Jersey Jackals (Can-Am League) in a trade for future considerations.

Murray Watts was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 28th round (839th overall) of the 2010 MLB Draft out of Arkansas State University. Watts played four seasons in the Royals organization before being released last week. Prior to being released, he was hitting .172 in 16 games for the Wilmington Blue Rocks (A+). Watts has a .231 batting average with 44 home runs and 158 RBI in his minor league career.

P.J. Phillips was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 2nd round (71st overall) of the 2005 MLB Draft. He played six seasons in the Angels organization before signing with the Cincinnati Reds in 2012. He split time between Double-A Pensacola, and Triple-A Louisville that season. Phillips has a career .248 batting average with 40 home runs and 223 RBI. He is also the younger brother of Cincinnati Reds second baseman, Brandon Phillips.

The Ducks also placed infielder Bryant Nelson on the inactive list.

I got a message from Ducks GM/President Mike Pfaff that some roster moves were coming, so these came as no surprise. At this point the Ducks need to try and anything to turn the season around. Hopefully these guys and help in the process.
