Ducks Beat Patriots! Skeeters Win Freedom Division 1st Half Championship!

The Sugar Land Skeeters clinched the Freedom Division first half championship of the Atlantic League on Saturday when the Long Island Ducks beat the Somerset Patriots 9-0.

Congratulations to the Skeeters on a fine first half!

Koby Clemens leads the Skeeters with 12 home runs, and has done a great job handling their pitching staff.

The Skeeters have been the best team in the Atlantic League the entire first half. What makes their run even more remarkable is that many for their key players were pillaged by major league organizations through out the first half of the season.

Here's the list of players:
Sean Gallagher - Colorado Rockies
Dustin Martin - Arizona Diamondbacks
Chase Lambin - Kansas City Royals
Michael Nix - Chicago White Sox
Dustin Richardson -  Los Angeles Angels

However, Gary Gaetti and the Skeeters kept finding players to add to their roster to keep them winning.  They ultimately held off the Somerset Patriots who made things interesting down the stretch. The Patriots also had a tremendous first half, finishing with a 43-24 record.

Aaron Bates has had a tremendous season for the Skeeters leading them with a .313 batting average.
The Skeeters have not just been the best team on the field but the best team filling seats. Sugar Land currently leads the Atlantic League in attendance with over 5,800 fans per game.

The success of Sugar Land is a good sign for the Atlantic League which hopes to add more teams in Texas over the next few years.
