The Ducks Chances Of Winning First Half Championship Are Shrinking

The Long Island Ducks chances of winning the Liberty Division First Half Championship, and assuring them a playoff spot are shrinking. With only a couple weeks left in the first half the Ducks sit three games out of first place behind the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.

For a majority of the first half the Ducks have been inconsistent, specifically their starting pitching. The offense has showed some promise, especially with the addition of Bill Hall, but it hasn't resulted in many wins.

One bright spot for the Ducks this last week, was a complete game one-hit shutout by Dontrelle Willis this past Friday night. Fans were hoping that the performance by Willis would spark the team, but the Ducks lost their next two games to the Lancaster Barnstormers who are in last place in the Freedom Division.
A complete game one-hit shutout by Willis couldn't spark the Ducks in their last two games.

The Ducks schedule over the next two weeks is somewhat in their favor. They'll combine to play nine games against Bridgeport and Camden, who sit at the bottom of the Liberty Division standings. They'll also get the Freedom Division leading Sugar Land Skeeters at home. They'll finish off the first half against the Somerset Patriots who are contending with the Skeeters for the First Half Championship in the Freedom Division.

What's interesting about the last series of the first half, is that the Skeeters will play the Blue Crabs, and the Ducks will play the Patriots. Right now, those teams either sit in first or second in their respective divisions. Those series will most likely determine the first half championships.
