Gateway Grizzles and Long Island Ducks Make Trade for Infielder Chris McClendon?

There was a recent transaction on the Frontier League website that may interest Long Island Duck fans. According to the site the Gateway Grizzles traded infielder Chris McClendon to the Ducks for a player to be named later. However, the Ducks or Atlantic League have yet to post anything on their sites about it.

This is interesting because many leagues are in the process of protecting players from last years roster, as well as signing players who are unprotected. It's possible the Ducks had interest in him before he signed with the Grizzles and eventually decided to trade for him.

Hopefully the Ducks post something over the next few days to clear this up. Until then here's a little about McClendon...

Chris McClendon went undrafted after playing college baseball at the University of Kentucky. He signed with the Gateway Grizzles of the Frontier League after he finished his college career in 2009. McClendon played five seasons in the Frontier League for the Grizzles and the River City Rascals. He has a career .303 batting average with 23 home runs and 158 RBI to go along with a .404 on-base percentage in 319 independent league games.
