Arnesen started the 2013 season with the Patriots, but had his contract sold to the Oakland Athletics organization on May 16, 2013. He pitched in three games for Oakland's Double-A Affiliate Midland.

In August, Arnesen returned to Patriots to finish out the season and help Somerset advance to the Atlantic League championship series. He finished the season with a 13-4 record and a 3.19 ERA in 149.2 innings for the Patriots.

"We are happy to have Arnesen back at the top of our rotation. He's a work horse on the mound who pounds the strike zone and eats innings. We look for him to continue his success in 2014," said Jon Hunton Director of Player Personnel for the Patriots

Erik Arnesen was originally drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 17th round (511th overall) of the 2006 MLB Draft. He pitched seven seasons in the Nats' organization including 57 games at the Triple-A level. He has a 48-45 record with a 3.75 ERA and 606 strikeouts in 719 innings during his time in affiliated ball.
