Vecchione On Being In The NHL, "A Lot Of Tears Of Joy..."

Mike Vecchione played in his first NHL game with the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night. The former Union College star logged just a little over 8 minutes of ice time in his debut.

Here's what Vecchione had to say about making it to the NHL and his first game:

"Putting on that sweater and playing in the NHL is something I've dreamed about my whole life. A lot of tears of joy the past week or so here because all the dreams have become realities but it was never easy. I had to work and sacrifice a lot to get to the next level. I had to earn everything along the way which has helped shape me into the person and player I am today. The change hasn't been crazy. Just a more luxurious lifestyle I guess with more free time to take care of yourself. It's definitely nice not having to stress over school work and balance everything. It's just strictly hockey which is great. In my first game I was just looking to make an impact and show coach what I am capable of. I just went out there and played my game. I thought it went well and it was a good start. More experience will only help but I certainly felt like I belonged out there which was the most important thing to me."

Vecchione will look for his first NHL points on Sunday night when the Flyers host the Carolina Hurricanes at 7pm.

  1. Nice article! However, Vecchione won't be playing against the CBJ on Friday because 1) the Flyers play CBJ on Saturday, and 2) he will be in Chicago at the Hobey Baker awards dinner.

  2. Thank you for updating the article!
