The Engineers capitalized on a Niko Hildenbrand tripping penalty at 11:03 of the first period when Jakob Lakka deflected a Will Reilly shot past UMass goalie Fille Lindberg to tie the game 1-1.

UMass took the lead back at 5:07 of the second period when Mitchell Chaffee wheeled around in the slot and snapped an innocent looking shot that made it through traffic and in to the back of the net to give the minutemen a 2-1 lead.

The Engineers came out with constant pressure on Lindberg to start the third period but were unable to get the equalizer.

Chaffee put the game way at 18:24 of the third period when he snapped a shot on net which was stopped by RPI goaltender Linden Marshall initially, but the rebound was left in front of the net which Chaffee slammed home to seal the deal for the Minutmen.

Chaffee finished the game with two goals for the Minutemen, both of which were assisted by Bobby Trivigno.

Lindberg finished stopped 21 shots on the net in the win, moving UMass to 2-0 on the season.

Marshall allowed three goals while making 29 saves in net for the Engineers (0-2-0).

The Engineers will host UConn on Friday night, while the Minutemen will travel to Columbus, OH, to face #1 ranked Ohio State for two games.

Key Takeaways:

- This was the second game in a row that Engineers allowed more than 30 shots on net.

- Lindberg filled admirably for Matt Murray, who got the night off. The Minutemen have two solid goaltenders going into season.

- The Engineers' one goal doubled their goal total on the season at two. RPI needs to get their offense going if they hope to get in the win column.
